Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey:  Leading the Organization’s Impact

Our Senior Management Team is committed to preventing child abuse.  Their leadership combines several decades of proven experience in their respective fields with passionate commitment for children. These Directors guide our full staff of diverse and talented professionals to ensure that all kids in New Jersey are happy, healthy, safe and encouraged to learn.

Rush L. Russell was appointed by the Board to the position of Executive Director in July 2009. Rush has an extensive background in the non-profit, philanthropic and governmental sectors. Prior to coming to Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. He was also the founder and president for Children’s Futures, a comprehensive effort to improve early childhood health and development outcomes for children in Trenton, New Jersey. In philanthropy, he served as a Senior Program Officer for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and as executive director for the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation. In government, he was a legislative assistant to Senator Bill Bradley in Washington D.C. and director for health and human services in the Governor’s Budget Office in Texas. Julie Bemaman, PHR, is our Human Resources Director. In addition to the oversight of traditional H.R. and office administration, she also heads up our Volunteer program. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan/Ann Arbor. Julie has worked in a variety of industries including newspaper publishing, insurance, retail distribution, and healthcare, in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Although she has specialized in both employment and benefits earlier in her career, she has spent most of the last two decades serving in H.R. generalist roles. Theresa Comprelli McCutcheon is our Chief Development Officer, responsible for helping secure resources to for our work preventing child abuse. Tess has over fifteen years of experience helping non-profits develop and secure funding to serve families in need. She directed a university office which introduced students to charitable experiences, build private/public partnerships in the business community which benefitted the elderly, directed an online volunteer center, and developed after-school resources for a local board of education. During her first role at Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey in 1994, she worked with a statewide Consortium to influence investments in an infrastructure for home visiting program. After working as a grant writer and nonprofit consultant, McCutcheon has returned to Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey to help build our fundraising capacity and raise dollars to support our work for children. She holds a Masters of Social Work and is a member of the Association for Fundraising Professionals and the American Association of Grant Professionals. Diane Dellanno is our Director of Early Childhood and Education Programs. Diane currently oversees the Family Outreach Program MA and the NJ State Parent Information and Resource Center. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience developing and implementing child abuse prevention programs, she has been affiliated with Prevent Child Abuse since 1986. Diane has conducted numerous national presentations on the topic of child abuse prevention and her research has been published in Families in Society and Social Work in Education. In 1995, she received a New Jersey Child Assault Prevention (CAP) award for her work in child abuse prevention. Diane received her MSW from Rutgers University. Natasha Johnson is our Vice President of Prevention Programs. She is responsible for the oversight of the following programs/initiatives: Healthy Families-TIP, Parent Linking Program, Parents as Teachers, Family Outreach TA Department and the Essex County Central Intake Collaboration. She earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from Florida State University. Natasha has worked in a variety of social service arenas including juvenile probation and re-entry, juvenile sex offender programs, in-home intervention programs and secondary prevention programs for at risk families.
