  • Director of Fundraising and Development
    (Full Time)

    The Development Officer is responsible for the development and oversight of activities to secure funds and generate resources for Prevent Child Abuse –New Jersey’s mission and programs. This position reports directly to the Executive Director. The Development Officer will create fundraising strategies to increase the organization's support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other sources and works closely with the ED, Board, staff and other contacts to identify, cultivate, and solicit new donors and markets.
  • MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Prepare an annual development plan

  • Research potential funding sources; provide recommendations to the Executive Director on what to ask for from the source and how to ask; assist in making the asks.
  • Coordinate resource development efforts among all Directors and Developers, ensuring deadlines and targets for preparing proposals and renewing grants are met;
  • Prepare annual calendar of fund raising events/activities; prepare a budget for each event/activity; prepare a timeframe/workplan for each event/activity;

2. Lead fund raising efforts

  • Plan for annual donations, major gifts, a membership campaign and endowment fund development;
  • Implement annual corporate campaign by researching, developing relationships within and soliciting the business community
  • Develop a membership program;
  • Obtain individual gifts;
  • Prepare materials needed for solicitation purposes;
  • Coordinate and represent the organization in meetings where requests are made;
  • Follow up inquiries and after gifts are made, maintaining records, and requesting renewal donations.

3. Oversee all special events

  • Recruit and manage volunteers who will assist with fund raising events;
  • Establish and oversee committees necessary to conduct events;
  • Ensure that timeframes and budgets are being met;
  • Manage events or oversee work of outside consultant;
  • Conduct post event activities and correspondence;
  • Maintain progress records and prepare final reports on events.

4. Oversee grant development to secure funding for the organization’s programs

  • Identify appropriate sources of funding;
  • Develop relationships to cultivate support;
  • Prepare proposals and applications;
  • Maintain records on contact;
  • Prepare reports as appropriate.

5. Coordinate efforts with Communications related to the development of all marketing and promotional materials for PCANJ programs to assure integration with fundraising.

6. Coordinate efforts with Communications related to Child Abuse Prevention Month to ensure efforts to raise public awareness reflect fundraising priorities and activities.

8. Ensure that all organizational fundraising activities are carried out with established ethical standards and in compliance with local, state, federal and non-profit regulations, guidelines and laws.

9. Participate as a member of PCANJ’s Senior Management Team.

10. Work with the Board of Directors and Committees as appropriate.

11. Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education and Work Experience: A bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in fundraising and development. Preferred experience related to knowledge, connections, and experience in the NJ nonprofit sector, managing successful fundraising events, and cultivating major gifts from individuals.

2. Skills and knowledge required:

  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • knowledge and skills related to successful fundraising strategies with individuals and organizations
  • ability to identify and cultivate relationships with individuals at all levels
  • able to promote and manage special events,
  • ability to juggle multiple assignments and details,
  • well organized in thinking, activities, and record keeping,
  • skill in developing attractive and appealing materials,
  • excellent interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, and a team player.

OTHER CONDITIONS OF THIS POSITION: Travel throughout the state of New Jersey will be necessary. Hours need to be flexible to allow for evening and weekend work when necessary.
