October is Parent Involvement
Month!
(Click Here to Download Parent Involvement Month Resources)
Every student in New Jersey should have a strong support system that values and encourages educational
achievement. Who better to support this effort than parents?
Recognizing
the benefits of inviting parents as
partners in their child's education in New Jersey, Governor Jon Corzine
issued a proclamation declaring October as Parent Involvement Month.
With
this
proclamation, the New Jersey State Parent Information and Resource
Center (NJPIRC), a program of Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey, acknowledges that parental involvement is a vital predictor of student achievement in school and the
important role parents play in shaping the lives of families and communities.
The
New Jersey State
Parent Information & Resource Center is leading a statewide
campaign to actively involve communities in Parent Involvement Month.
During the month
of
October, the New Jersey State Parent Information and Resource Center is
offering free Parent Tools and informative brochures for parents, to
raise
awareness and remind us
that parents play a critical role in the lives of children and their
education. Visit our website or click above to get all the information

NJPIRC Funds Parent Involvement Activities during the
month of
October for 21 New Jersey Schools
The
New Jersey
State Parent
Information and Resource Center
(NJPIRC),has awarded stipends to twenty-one of New Jersey's public
schools allowing schools to hold parent activities during October to
celebrate
Parent Involvement
Month.
The
funding award
by NJPIRC
will further enhance the
partnerships between school and the families they serve and promote the
continued development of parent involvement initiatives in school
systems
throughout the state. Research consistently demonstrate that students
are more likely to prosper academically and socially when the school,
the home,
and the community work together to support a child's development. In order to impact student achievement, family activities need
to
be on the forefront. Parent group activities pave the way for a parent friendly school environment and foster effective communication
between parents, students and school staff. NJPIRC is working to build these partnerships so that all students in New Jersey,
particularly those in low performing districts, achieve high academic performance with strong educational
outcomes.

NJPIRC Welcomes our Newest Partners

school/district has received a grant from NJPIRC to help them improve
their parent

achievement. On this day our new partners were trained by Brenda
Thomas, from the National Network of Partnership Schools. Each district
will use the NNPS model as a foundation to develop and/or enhance their
parent involvement program. NJPIRC will provide our partners with the
guidance and support they need to succeed. We are proud to
welcome the following schools/districts into our NJPIRC
